Blake Kuwahara Proctor Taupe Sun
Architectural Fluidity in Earth-Toned Lamination
The Proctora is a larger, more expressive version of the classical square, featuring the brand's signature dual-silhouette construction. In the Taupe Sun colorway, a smoky, translucent taupe outer frame encases a rich, structured inner core. This combination is specifically engineered to interact with sunlight, creating a "halo" effect around the eyes that highlights the frame's 3D internal geometry.
Technical Craftsmanship & Materials
Dual-Layer Lamination & Curing: The inner and outer frame components are milled separately and bonded through a proprietary high-pressure lamination process lasting two months. This is followed by a six-month curing period to ensure the materials achieve a permanent, seamless bond.
Translucent Taupe Acetate: Handcrafted from high-crystalline Japanese acetate. The Taupe finish is achieved through a bespoke dye process that maintains transparency, allowing the internal "skeleton" of the frame to remain visible even in bright sun.
45-Degree Mitered End Pieces: Borrowing from master carpentry, the temples and end pieces are cut at a precise 45-degree angle. This "hidden-joint" technique allows the Taupe pattern to flow uninterrupted from the frame front into the temples.
Laser-Engraved OBE Hinges: Equipped with custom German-engineered OBE multi-barrel hinges. Each hinge is laser-engraved and utilizes nylon-coated stainless steel screws to prevent loosening and maintain a smooth "snap" feel.
Fit & Comfort Engineering
Ballasted Temple Tips: An additional 1.0mm of crystal acetate is fused into the temple tips. This functional counterweight shifts the center of gravity back toward the ears, balancing the front-heavy dual-layer construction.
Laminated High-Pad Bridge: Features integrated 11mm nose pads (significantly higher than the 7mm industry standard). This provides superior lift and a more secure "universal fit" that prevents the lower rim from resting on the cheeks.
Hand-Finished Luster: Every Proctora frame is hand-sculpted and tumbled with wood chips and pumice stones in Japan, ensuring the beveled edges are tactilely soft and glass-smooth.
Technical Dimensions
Model: Proctora (Taupe Sun)
Size (Caliber): 53mm
Bridge Width: 20mm
Temple Length: 145mm
Lens Type: Premium Sun Gradient (100% UVA/UVB protection)
Manufacturing: Handcrafted in Japan
Expert Note: The Proctora is essentially a "sister" model to the Proctor optical frame, scaled up for a sun profile. Its 53mm lens width and square geometry make it a "Goldilocks" frame—large enough for a statement sunglass look, but structurally stable enough to accommodate high-index prescription sun lenses without excessive edge thickness.
