Blake Kuwahara 1035 Plum Sun
The Art of Lamination: A Seamless Frame-Within-A-Frame
The BK1035 is a definitive example of Blake Kuwahara’s "artful yet wearable" philosophy. Using a proprietary lamination process that takes nearly eight months to complete, this frame features an inner silhouette encased in a contrasting outer shape. The Plum Sun colorway utilizes a rich, translucent purple palette that catches the light to reveal the complex internal geometry of the frame.
Technical Craftsmanship
Proprietary Lamination: The inner and outer acetate silhouettes are milled as separate components before undergoing a two-month fusion process. This creates a seamless, monolithic piece that lacks the visible glue lines found in inferior laminated frames.
Hand-Sculpted Acetate: Following lamination, each frame is hand-polished for an additional six months. The Plum finish is achieved through a combination of Italian and Japanese acetates, providing a depth of color that shifts between deep berry and vibrant violet.
45-Degree Mitered Joints: The end pieces are mitered at a precise 45-degree angle—a technique borrowed from fine cabinetry—to completely conceal the break between the frame front and the temple.
Signature Hardware: Features custom German-engineered OBE hinges, laser-engraved with the Kuwahara logo and secured with nylon-coated stainless steel screws for maximum tension retention.
Optical & Fit Details
Ballasted Temple Tips: The tips are reinforced with an additional 1.0mm of crystal acetate and weighted to act as a counterweight, shifting the center of gravity away from the nose for a "weightless" feel.
Laminated Nose Pads: Integrated acetate pads are increased to 11mm in height (compared to the industry standard 7mm) to provide a more universal, slip-resistant fit for various bridge profiles.
